A house fire took place at a residence at 2609 Woods Smith Road Jan. 3, according to a Knoxville Fire Department report.
Spokesperson D.J. Corcoran said that the fire took place at approximately 11:49 p.m. One of the residents reported that she had been burning a wood stove for heat in an enclosed carport area.
The fire had extended to an upstairs attic that appears to have been converted into an apartment at some point.
The resident and four other people living in the home got out safely without any harm or injury. City crews were dispatched to spread salt on the iced over roads after firefighters left the scene.
Investigators will determine if the wood stove burning is what started the structural fire. The American Red Cross was called to find temporary placement for four of the five victims.
