The Min H. Kao Electrical Engineering and Computer Science building is scheduled to open next week at the University of Tennessee when students return from their Christmas break.
The building is reportedly the first new engineering building in nearly 50 years.
The building cost approximately $37.5 million, paid for in part with a $12.5 million gift from Garmin co-founder and UT alumna Min Kao.
The 150,000-square-foot building will feature new research labs, teaching labs and classrooms. Courses in the electrical engineering and computer science department will have first priority in using the building classrooms and labs, followed by other engineering departments and the university.
