Female pedestrian struck and killed in Karns neighborhood

A woman died Jan. 4 when she was struck by a car while she walked in a neighborhood in Karns, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. 

The woman, identified as 64-year-old Deborah Olson Lomax, was walking with her husband at Governorwood Drive and Macmont Circle not long after 5 p.m. when she was hit by a Toyota 4Runner driven by Douglas Mayes.

Mayes told officers he didn’t see Lomax because he was blinded by the sun.

Lomax was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was  pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed against Mayes as the investigation continues, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
