Stan Brock, founder of Remote Area Medical, was on hand at the Jacob’s Building in Chilhowee Park on Saturday, February 4 as hundreds of volunteers provided medical, dental and vision care for as many as 800 individuals; they will see more on Sunday.
Brock says the greatest needs for those who can’t afford medical care are in the areas of dental and vision. As the cost of seeing a dentist has risen, the access for the poor to adequate dental care has decreased leaving many with nowhere to turn.
Brock says today’s Remote Area Medical event marks the 659th time he and the volunteers have cared for needy people around the world.
Although Brock is not an American citizen, he has chosen to make Knoxville his home. He has spent decades flying around the world with his R.A.M. organization as the volunteers help him help the needy.
