A local company is making those who go through the grueling process of finding a job rethink their strategies.
M-Force Staffing, which has been based in Knoxville for five years, offers its clients a revolutionary solution that saves both time and money through the use of video resumes.
Potential employers receive a 90-second video of each applicant that they can use to screen prospective candidates. M-Force is reportedly the only staffing agency in the state that features the video resume tool as a resource for their clients.
Also with a branch office in Nashville, the company is ranked as the fourth-fastest growing human resources company in the country, and is on on this year’s Inc. Magazine 500 list.
“It saves companies a lot of money when they go with us,” said Andy Moss, vice president of M-Force Staffing. “Most of the time you send me your resume on a piece of paper, and if so-and-so looks great for this job, I will send it to my client. He reviews it and interviews him. With this, it’s like an interview face-to-face — you come into my office and I say, ‘I need your resume, let me download it into this video profile,’ and you make a 30-90 second video, tell me what your passions are, what makes you tick, and I will send it to my client, and he’ll say, ‘Oh I like this guy or woman,’ ‘I want to interview him or her,’ or ‘Let’s just have him start Monday.’ I save the client the money, time and effort.
“They’ve already had a face-to-face interview, speeding up the hiring process and the clients are saving time with not having interview time,” Moss added.
Each recruiter will talk to approximately 30 to 50 individuals a day, Moss said, and several people can be covered in equal interviews, not counting e-mail. The company mainly recruits for technically-based clients, but has also placed its clients in manufacturing, skills and trade jobs, not just covering Knoxville but most of the Southeast region.
The company offers their services at no charge, as they are paid by the companies who hire M-Force’s clients.
“We can’t guarantee anyone a job,” Moss said. “We want to know who’s looking and we do a lot of consulting, look at the resume and break it down, and help coach them. We do this at no charge, that’s part of our mission. Our job and our mission is to help people work. We screen thousands of people.”
The company also coaches its clients on recording videos.
“We’re pros in this industry. We’re here to help you get a job, not to screw you up,” Moss said. “If you’re struggling to pass something on your resume, but you’re a great person, this tool takes you to the top. I guarantee you my managers will open this up. If there are a stack of resumes, and they open this up, I guarantee (the potential employer) will see yours. That’s a huge plus right there. They love watching them.
So would they consider video resumes the wave of the future?
“Yes, it’s coming,” Moss said. “That’s why we invested in this tool. We know this is coming down the tracks. We just want to be the first to do it. It’s fun, but not for everybody.”
